Classical Post x Moi: Gabriela Lena Frank

Gabriela Lena Frank

I’m thrilled to announce my new partnership with Classical Post; each month I’ll be interviewing one of the most influential composers of today. My mission to bring attention to works by female-identifying composers continues to open up my musical world. It was such an honor to interview powerhouse composer Gabriela Lena Frank for the first piece in this partnership. I’ve long admired her artistry, innovation, and dedication to supporting emerging composers through the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music.

Currently serving as Composer-in-Residence with the storied Philadelphia Orchestra and included in The Washington Post's list of the 35 most significant women composers in history (August, 2017), identity has always been at the center of Gabriela Lena Frank's music. We discuss how identity plays in her work, her latest album Her Own Wings, and more in this exclusive interview.
